FIRST Glance: This Year's Game
One common kit of parts •
One common challenge
One championship
37 regional competitions •
1,300 Teams
• 32,500 students
For 2007, teams
are given 6 weeks to construct a robot from a common kit of parts
provided by FIRST. Teams are
sponsored by and work with corporations such as Motorola, GM, Delphi, NASA,
Daimler-Chrysler, Rockwell, Siemens, and Toyota, among many
others.
This year's game is
called Rack 'n' Roll.
Robots are required to use a remotely controlled arm and claw to place
colored inner tubes onto a structure referred to as "the rack,"
which has 24 "spider legs." In order to practice
placing the inner tubes on a rack, we built our own full scale model
in Motorola's prototype lab.
